The password that you have chosen when you have installed ubuntu.

Actually, you should be using the "sudo" command and give your chosen password.
The "su" command to become root is asking for the root password, which does not exist, unless you
set it up (not recommended).

depending on which version of ubuntu you have, you may need to go to www.winehq.com and add the ppa before you can install wine (ie: ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10). after you've added the ppa, go into terminal and type

sudo apt-get install wine1.3

type in your password when requested. it won't show on the screen.

you can also install wine via synaptic package manager without having to go through sudo. but what you get may not be the most current version.

I succeeded in working with MapSource copying the CD to a directory and then rigth clicking the setup.exe, and selecting "Open with Wine Program Loader". Then I follow the instructions in Trip & Waypoint Manager like as installing it each time and choosing Modify or Repair and at the end "Launch MapSource now"
