installed graphic card, black screen...

Asked by ken brockman

I HAVE 12.04 installed on my box, running good off of onboard graphics. The problem is, when i install the new pci2 card and switch the bios to PCI, the screen goes black after the start up splash screen with only a 10 pix or so band at the very top of the screen.

The driver that comes with the card, a radeon HD 6450 is windows only, i had tried to install the ati drivers while still using the build in ati graphics, but had gotten an error msg.

MB Biostar a880GZ

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.....

Damn cap lock. :)

Did you disable the onboard video chip too?

Also add the boot option:

nomodeset

See if it helps...

Thank you, but i managed to get it going somewhat, (an image on the screen that i could at least navigate), after tweaking the bios.

Can you help with this problem?
