Radeon HD 7500 driver issue

Asked by musya

I was trying to install Ubuntu 12.4 but after the install and the first reboot, none of the display managers would work, couldn't even get into terminal window.

Anybody have this problem or know a fix to this?

Hi ,

try to boot from [Recovery Mode] is the second option in grub menu . If you don't have grub menu , then hold down SHIFT key until grub menu shows up.

When recovery mode menu show up , first click ROOT and the give these 3 commands

1. mount -o rw,remount /

2. apt-get update

3. apt-get dist-upgrade

When all updates finish , then reboot with this command

4. reboot

Thanks

I will give that a try in the morning.

I did have some interesting results while waiting for a reply to this thread.

I downloaded Ubuntu 12.10 beta 1, installed it, rebooted and the graphics came up just fine, then I did an apt-get update, apt-get upgrade which installed a ton of updates, rebooted then the graphics were acting up, half working and half not. So I went to install the ATI proprietary driver, which only made it worse.

I have not tried the dist-upgrade however, I'll do that next

Can you help with this problem?
