How do i install ATI radeon HD5450 graphics card

Just a thought, would it be simpler for me to swap the cards over and just do a fresh install of Ubuntu? It is currently a fresh install so no data will be lost. (or would this not work due to bios settings etc (i really have no idea!)?)

What is the output of:

sudo lshw -C display; lsb_release -a; uname -a

Do I physically install the new card then get this info? Should I leave the
old card installed(I guess I need to so I can see my screen)?

It depends on what the old card is and whether it required you to install proprietary drivers.

The Old card just worked after installing 13.10.

Then just put the 5450 in and it should work (the open-source radeon driver is already installed). You can then, optionally, install the proprietary fglrx/Catalyst driver if you wish.

Hi, thanks Daniel - it does work (only tried the VGA) but i would like to install the proprietary driver - how do i do this?!

I read the link but wasn't sure where to start. The fglrx-installer link took me to a page where i downloaded fglrx-installer_13.101.orig.tar.gz but i don't know where to go from there.
Besically the card works and outputs via hdmi but no sound. I'm hoping the new drivers (once i understand how to install them) will help solve this.
I really am a linux beginner so any step by step advice is appreciated.

sudo apt-get install fglrx

So I can try the workaround before I install fglrx?
