Web cam access

Asked by Cathy Anderson

Hi!
My son just downloaded Linux to my computer. Is there any way I can watch the elephants on the elephants.com website? They are so much fun to watch and this program does not seem to be able to open the cam up.
Thanks for your help!
Cathy

For tat, you need the 'mozilla-mplayer' package. You can install this package in a few relatively simple steps. If you get stuck in the instructions below, or something seems to go wrong, don't hesitate to reply and ask for more guidance.

1) Open the synaptic package manager via the menu system -> administration -> synaptic

2) Open the repositories dialog via the menu Settings -> Repositories

3) Click the 'add' button. Make sure "non-free" is selected and click "Add". Then close the repositories dialog

4) Click on the reload button in the main window of synaptic

5) Open the search window via edit->search, in the pop-up you enter this: mozilla-mplayer

6) Click search and wait a bit. Eventually the pop-up will diappear and the mozilla-mplayer package should appear

7) Click on the square next to the name and select "Mark for installation", then click Apply and wiat while it downloads and installs the package.

8) If you still have any browser windows open, close them. Then start firefox again. You should be able to see the elephants now.
