back-up

Asked by robinot

2010/MARCH/5(europe:france) - koala and lucid - (please, excuse my poor level in english).

I would like be sure about two thinks:
is ubuntuone free and really free ?
(i have read that it needs, in europe, a special connection whith a phone-call to activate it.)
why the back-up files on ubuntuone doesn't work on ?
(why all is deleted on line ? does softs can be accepted ? Is 30mo on a single file can be agreed ? is it shared whithout my will ? why does it ask to me to crypt before download or upload ? does it accept all kind of folders and file or only different little files ?)

I am only interressed if and only if :
1°- it is free and night and day (24/24) free.
2°- i can use it as back-up on line (on dual-boot, we need to reinstall all, when a problem arrives).

Whithout these importants answers, i am going to uninstall it and even, perhaps, uninstall ubuntu.

robinot,
The 2GB account is free. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There is no special connection or phone call required.
The 50GB account is $10 a month.
You should be able to upload large and small files of all types.
Security and Privacy is discussed here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuOne/Security
It should make no difference if the machine is a dual-boot. You should definitely not have to reinstall Ubuntu One.

Could you please file a bug so we can look at some of your information and determine the cause of your issues. The behaviour you are describing (missing files, slow transfer speed) are not normal. You can do this by right clicking the applet (icon in the top panel) and selecting 'Report a Problem'.

thank you,
duanedesign

dear duanedesign, I am happy to know that we (everyone) can use whith a full confidence.
Upload : I am going to try sending some different files, zip ,folder whith files, .ogg etc... on line.
Download : Then, I should try to open it on my little computer.
As soon as i should meet a problem, i should report it in 'report a problem', following yours advices.
Lucid is coming and i hope all problems reported will be resolved before we have had updated ubuntu-koala.
Thank you very much for your clear answer, i can now, whithout fear, beginning my work.
