Is there a 'ignore' funtionality in file syncing?

Like good old cvs .ignore or equalent?
I use Ubuntu One frequently for .blend files (medium big, binary, change often so not good for bzr). It's easiest to run blender directly in ~/Ubuntu One, but it creates some cruft (.pyc, .blend1 etc) that it would be good to be able to ignore (saving bandwidth and storage but most - making the 'real' sync go faster).
