Can I set files outside the "Ubuntu One" folder to be synced in Ubuntu One?

Asked by Pablo Marchant

I was wondering if there is a way, or at least if there will eventually be, to select a folder in an arbitrary location on your computer, right click on it, and choose something like "sync with Ubuntu One". I would expect the option to link the folder the Ubuntu one folder, and sync it that way, without having to modify the file directly in the "Ubuntu One" folder.

Hi Pablo,

There is currently not a way to sync folder outside of the ~/Ubuntu One folder. This is an often requested feature and we plan on adding it into a future release. We are also considering adding the ability to sync symlinks within the ~/Ubuntu One folder.

As a tie over for more advanced users, an .ubuntuonerc in HOME would be really useful:

$ cat .ubuntuonerc
~/.vim
~/.face
~/.themes
~/.imapfilter
$ echo "~/Documents/Big Project" >> .ubuntuonerc

Would keep these various files and directories synced.
