PHP in Ubuntu Desktop

Hello, I would like to learn PHP in my Ubuntu Desktop machine. I have installed Apache and PHP. I dont know where to put my PHP files and call it from my web-browser.

In windows I put my PHP files in httdocs folder and I can see the files in my browser by typing http://localhost/<filename>.php , but I am not able to locate where httdocs and/or Apache folder in Ubuntu.

Could any one help?

if you do not change apache installation,
you put the php files and other html files /var/www folder
