pictures folder disappeared after installing Variety on Linux Mint

Not sure this is the right place to make a report..
I installed Variety on a Linux Mint 17 and when I went to open the pictures folder it had completely disappeared from the Home folder, with the pictures that were there...
Can it be related to Variety or is it a Linux bug?
Strange that it should happen just after the installation...

I don't exclude the possibility, but Variety has been used for several years already by quite a lot of users without anyone reporting anything similar.

Variety does have some functionality to keep its own Downloaded folder (which by default resides in ~/.config/variety/Downloaded) down to a certain size by deleting old downloaded pictures, but no changes have been made to this functionality since a lot of time. Also there are measures in the logic so that even if you accidentally change the Downloaded folder to another one (like ~/Pictures), it will actually create a subfolder there and work inside it, and it will also automatically turn off the size limiting.

The other functionality dealing with "removing" files is the "Move to Trash" option, but it is deliberately triggered by the user for single pictures.

How did you install it - from my PPA or from somewhere else?
After you installed it, did you actually run it before the files disappeared or "just after the installation" means you haven't even run it?
After you installed it, did you change anything in its configuration, especially the folders?
Can you please attach the logfile from ~/.config/variety/variety.log.

Thanks for your quick answer...The problem is on one of my friends computer
and I am not at his place at the moment...so i cannot get the log yet...but
will as soon as possible..
I installed it from your PPA
I ran it after the install, to show my friend how it works and tried
different pictures folders given on your program and some pictures folders
from an external harddisk...it worked fine...then i wanted to put the
pictures folder from Linux on but could not find it anywhere...tried to get
it to show with some commands...one pictures folder appeared but when I
clicked on it it said it was not available..then when I restarted the
computer it was gone again..very strange..
After install I did not change anything in the configuration or the
folders..
I have Variety on my own computer and it works fine...never had a problem
with it...
It could be a Linux problem but if so I haven't been able yet to find a
solution...
I'll get back to you as soon as I get the logfile...

This does not really sound to be related to Variety. It sounds like some pre-existing misconfiguration, problem with permissions or something like this.
