Wubi

Unable To Install Wubi

I have attempted to install Wubi 10.10 on my PC & keep getting the same error; which says permission denied please see log file wubi 10.10 rev197. I have tried from several different burned CDs & even earlier versions of Unbuntu & turned off AVG so it doesn't block Pyrun.exe & nothing works, I tried to go through the log to see the problem but I am not sure what the problem is. This is the entire log please help if you can thanks in advance.
& if @ all possible could you tell me where you found the problem in the log so that I can learn more about it in general as they say knowledge is power.

You need to look for the first error in the log file - some errors are fatal, but Wubi still 'attempts' various alternatives. Your first error is Errno 13. This one means that it had an issue copying the CD image to a local copy. The reasons for this are a) bad burn b) incompatible cd burning process c) incompatible optical drive (based on what I've read of the bug reports.)

The solution is generally to copy the downloaded desktop ISO and wubi.exe into the same folder on your hard drive and run wubi from there.

But it is good to have an Ubuntu CD, so you it's good to see if it works. Check the md5sum, or when you boot your computer, select boot from CD - then press a key when you see the little keyboard icon (bottom centre) and then select Check CD for defects from the extended menu.
If the CD turns out to be bad you can try burning another as described here: http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download

Great!

So with Wubi you need to be aware that it's using a virtual disk (or virtual partition) which is actually a file on your windows ntfs 'drive'. This works well, but it does mean there is a higher risk of data loss in the event that corruption occurs. You can protect yourself by avoiding hard shutdowns and maintaining current backups.
On linux OSes there is a kernel level interrupt that enables you to shutdown safely even when everything hangs (in some cases it doesn't work, but for most situations it does). By holding down ALT+SysRq and then pressing R E I S U B. If you have no SysRq key use PrntScr. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_SysRq_key )

If you find you want to use Ubuntu permanently it's a good idea to partition and do a full install. You can also migrate your current wubi setup when you choose to do this without having to reconfigure and install everything. Wubi makes it convenient to try out Ubuntu and you are able to uninstall easily (without having to deal with the separate partitions and different bootloaders)

The error is sort of buried in the log file - I guess I've looked at a few of them and just zero in on the parts that normally show problems.

Sometimes it's easier to clear the log file before reinstalling (if you're troubleshooting) as it just keeps appending to it so it gets quite unreadable.
