wubi downloading files from a torrent?

Asked by Tom S

Why does the wubi installer download the required files through a torrent?

The problem is that the torrent will give me an awful download speed and it predicts that it will take in excess of 90 hours to fully download 700 MB of data.

Is there a version of the wubi installer that uses a direct download and will be able to use my internet connection to its full capability?

From wikipedia "The BitTorrent protocol can be used to reduce the server and network impact of distributing even large files. " I can't speak for the developers but it seems to me like a good idea to speed up downloading and prevent incomplete downloads through timeouts.

If you are getting 90 hours then - likely there is some firewall blocking it. In this case, download the ISO yourself, place it in the same folder as wubi.exe and run wubi from there (and it will use it) - or burn the ISO to a disk and run it from there.

That is a good idea.

I'll download the ISO for 11.04 and burn it to a CD now.

Thanks for that.
