can't boot ubuntu in dual boot system

Asked by richtalia

When I try to boot ubuntu 11.10, from a dual boot (windows 7 & ubuntu 11.10) all I get is a "Grub" prompt.

Any command that I type in results in "command not found" , including: "help", " rescue", etc, etc.

What do you recommend?

I originally installed ubuntu along side windows 7 using: "WUBI".

Can I un-install ubuntu & then re-install it ???

My computer is a laptop Gateway M285-b, dual processor.

Thanks for your help !!!

I appreciate your answer very much, However, if you re-read my question, you will see that that I had already done that. When I turn the computer on, that asks what OS I want to boot: Windows7 or Ubuntu. When I select "ubuntu" the next screen is a grub prompt. Typing any command in results in: "command not found". How do I "repair" this situation, or completely un-install ubuntu and then re-install it? Many thanks for your answer....Rich...

I stared with windows 7 installed, and then installed ubuntu 11.10 "alongside" using "WUBI".
