Will Xibo work with Setup Box?

Asked by Jay Boby

Can Xibo work on a setup box? We are trying to find a solutions to display screens on tv from setup boxes. Is it possible to use xibo client PC connected to a setup box and to a tv? If yes will each setup box needs a client id? How will that be configured.

Hoping for a reply.

Jay

Hi Alex,

Sorry its set top box.

A set-top box (STB) or set-top unit (STU) is a device that connects to a television and an external source of signal, turning the signal into content which is then displayed on the television screen or other display device.

Assuming the STB can take a VGA/DVI/HDMI signal generated by a PC and turn it in to whatever output signal you want then yes I suppose it could. Xibo's software has no bearing on that - it's all in the hardware in the STB.

Most Xibo users just hook the PC straight up to the TV without any kind of conversion (via HDMI or VGA if the tv supports it).

The Xibo client will need an ID. The STB is your hardware and has nothing to do with the PC running Xibo (from what you describe). If you need to address specific content to each client PC then each would need its own ID. If you wanted to show the same to everyone then all clients could share an ID.

If you went down the route of individual IDs for each STB then beware as Xibo has never been used to our knowledge with more than a couple of hundred individual clients.

some STBs have linux on it... on that cases it is maybe possible to get it completely to work as a client when installing the python client.

Did someone find a solution fot that ?

The solution would involve some kind of (VGA/DVI/HDMI) to MPEGx converter on the xibo client side. I don't know of any such device though

vlc will convert a screen output to an MPEG stream, but discussions on that would be better directed towards an appropriate forum as it's all external to the Xibo software.

Thanks alex. I'll contact the vlc team about that.

I agree my question is external to the Xibo software. But, IMHO, it is
tightly related to deployments of the Xibo system :)

So I'll try to find a more appropriate xibo related forum.

Can you help with this problem?
