Multiple powerpoints slide shows open in read only

Asked by Richard Dillon

I am new to this software and have inherited an issue that I need to correct. What happens is you start the client up and then open powerpoint in display mode. Things run fine for a while could be 5 minutes to 15 minutes then powerpoint opens a read only copy of the same presentation in edit mode. The first powerpoint is still running fine but you can not see it until the copy is closed. If you are not watching this to happen so you can close it other read only copies will be started. I have seen as many as 8 at one time. I was told that they use to run a server to support this but I have yet to find the box they used. Any assistance will be appreciated.

Do you have Powerpoint viewer installed? If so it's not suitable. You need a full version of Powerpoint.

It's also worth making sure you've done all the client setup steps from the install guide including the section on Powerpoint, and that server and client are at the latest stable versions.

Thanks for the reply. I have the full version of powerpoint installed. As for the client server setup the server has been off line for about 3 months and the client is getting its info from the client system. I will check the documents you suggested.

Do you need to run a server? Since there has not been one for so long could I just install another? Is the powerpoint suppose to run in the window or on top of it. In the window on the desktop it says navigation to webpage was canceled. What you can try: retype the address. If this was initially done with a linux server running apache could it be moved to a new IIS site?

Yes - you could just install a new server. It should work on iis but we dont activly test on iis so i cant help you with it.

We normally run on apache.

Powerpoint items run from inside internet explorer.
