Lowest Scroll Speed Still too Fast

Asked by Barry Wood

Hi,

I have a storyline to tell which runs for about 120 seconds. However, even when the text size is correct for the screen the lowest scroll speed I can set (which is 1) is still too fast for the average reader to follow the text comfortably.

I've tried decimals (0.75 for example), but the system removes the point, hence I can't get any slower than 1, which as I say is too fast.

Is there a way to change this setting to make the text go slower?

1.4.1 should have fixed this (made scroll speed 1 very slow) - if it isn't readable then I wonder if we fixed it in all cases. Is this a text item?

Perhaps you could give us your resolution/text size/region coordinates and dimensions and of course the text... we can recreate the layout and see how fast it runs on our text hardware.

Dan,
Region size is 414x419, resolution of screen is 1152x864. I could send you the Word document I created (which includes 2 jpgs), if you let me know an email to send to (hoped Launchpad would have ability to post files, but seems not).

The problem has a different aspect on a different laptop. Whilst the scroll speed is still too fast on my development laptop (not by much), it is way too slow on the production laptop, which is a much lower spec machine.

Are these settings locked to the clock of the machine or the processor speed? They should be the former so the scroll speed is the same whatever machine it is being displayed on.

I see in Xibo Client Options there is a 'Scroll Step Amount (px)' setting. Does this do something about this problem?

Barry, its not linked directly to clock speed... but scrolling text does take a stupidly large amount of CPU for what is actually happening... so it could be that your CPU cannot move the pixels quick enough.

Bottom line is that we need a better solution for this in all of our clients - finding something is proving more challenging!

You can send your document to <email address hidden>

OK, that answers my query - the client processor speed is what governs the scroll speed rather than the clock. The CPU on my client is an old one, I may have an option of swapping it for a faster version. Would this go down as a 'bug' to be resolved in the future?

Just going back to my original problem - the setting of 1 (the lowest allowed) is showing the text going through too fast to be read comfortably. Is there a way to slow this down more (I realise the box doesn't allow decimal places, maybe it should?)
